Quiz question of the day

What do you call a group of armed people who attack a public school on the first day of a school year, take hostage over 1000 children and teachers, wire the building with explosives, kill some teachers and make political demands to government or they start killing children? Give up?
According to CNN and other mass media they are "rebels" fighting for freedom and independence. What would they be called if they were Palestinians?

First one

Not sure why but it's USS Liberty 1967 massacre that is getting to me lately. Must have read something recently. It is called an "incident" in Wiki. Now that is an understatement. Israelis knew they were attacking an American naval vessel according to many sources I have looked at over the years. More and more data is coming out starting in 2003: newspaper articles, memoirs and interviews. No investigation by US Congress on the most devastating peace-time attack on a US Navy ship and an attempted cover-up right after the attack speak for themselves.

The problem with statements like this is credibility of the sources used. I read "Body of Secrets" by James Bamford and he is not that accurate with sources. A site gtr5.com has a very good collection of reports and quotes from reputable sources.

The Congressional Medal of Honor was awarded to Captain McGonagle. The official citation at http://www.history.army.mil/html/moh/vietnam-m-z.html does not name the enemy who attacked the ship.
